  • Franklin D. Roosevelt had a German Shepherd named "Major."

  • The year the first German Shepherd was registered with the AKC was in 1908.

  • The average size of a German Shepherd litter is 8 puppies.

  • The only coat color that can disqualify a German Shepherd in the AKC conformation ring is the color white.

  • John Kennedy also had a German Shepherd; "Clipper" was its name.

  • The first German Shepherd war hero was "Nemo" from the Vietnam war.

  • Often the German Shepherd is called the 3rd most intelligent dog breed. (Only behind the Border Collie and Poodle)

  • German Shepherds were pretty much the first breed used in police work. They began in Ghent, Belgium around the year 1900.

  • Roy Roger's German Shepherd was named "Bullet the Wonder Dog."
